NEW YORK
It was four-hour feast of music to the ears at Rachel Carson Intermediate School in Flushing where Master Shrinivas gave a superb mandolin concert of Carnatic music recently.
Right from the beginning of the concert, Shrinivas transcended the aud ience who came from far and near to a wonder world Carnatic music.
With nimble fingers, the child prodigy performed different ragas and repertoires with remarkable ease and skill, as if 70-years virtuosity has been encapsuled in the 17-year old lad.
The precision and speed with which he played intricate ragas and repertoire makes one wonder whether he has ten fingers or thirty. Despite performing
hundreds of concerts in India and abroad, his zeal, and zest remain unabated. He plays the western instrument with alacrity, like a child relishing an ice cream.
The audience were kept spell bound, in pin-drop silence, throughout the program. The magni ficence of the concert could be measured from the fact that people were vying for seats in front. By interval, even the seats kept for VIPs on the front row had been occupied by music aficionados.
